Back in action

So now I´m back in action, in Karlskrona, in caos. We are running towards on deadline and now is the time to be really sure of what steps we take. As AD I feel that we have crossed the point of no return in this productio. We had a meeting with our client yesterday and got to show our designs. This meeting was a bit late in the production, because now we don´t really have time to go back and redo our concept and designs. But we were happy to know that they loved it. Some minor changes but nothing we can handle.

This is a little storyboard for our intro sequnce. This is what I will digg into this weekend.


This weekend will be the calm before the storm. We have the deadline on next thursday and we havn´t opend After Effects yet. This weekend our PM, designer, illustrator and CD will be traveling home and get back on monday, which leaves me here. So to make the most of the time, I will start to animate. As much I can.
Yvonne will work with the designs as well, but from home. Filip will also do some work over the weekend.

I´ve done some 3D work, the only 3D in this project, or maybe not. Who knows? Would love to get some time to lern more modeling in 3D but the time is short and much to do.

Recruitment visit

Today was the day when I was supposed have visit my old school to promote Hyper Island. And so I did. In conclusion, the day has been going fantastic. They loved me. All of them.
Haha. No but it went well. It was really nice to get to see my old teachers and the new students.

I presented Hyper Island as a different kind of school that they were used to. I asked them to name a couple of things that was usual for a school like teachers, homework, classrooms and so on. Then I pointed out how the different things was done on Hyper ISland. Instead of teachers we have our class as a resource and got cool lectures instead. That we worked in a old military prison instead of an ordinary school facility and so on.
Many were interested and a got a lot of questions. I talked much more then I thought I would because of all the questions I got. It was were fun to see them so interested in Hyper Island.



On other news, I got some really good designs from Yvonne today. They will really do the job.

Wazzup Formas & Bodenfors!

So today I was visiting Formas & Bodenfors in Stockholm. Got to talk to the head people over lunch and then go with them to a shooting of a campaign. Interesting to see what people are present at a shoot and how things are done.
Wont go into details but having my internship there seems like a good choice.

I have been working a lot with the script and story for our promotion video for SYLF and it seems like it´s going in a good direction. And talking about direction, my art direction looks good as well.


Got some nice sketches from Yvonne, but we will have to set the design this week.


Time to meet the family. And the dogs. But they are the family as well.

Tickets home

On monday morning I´ll take my backpack with my computer, some cloths and a kickass presentation and jump on the train home to Sundsvall.
But before I´ll get to Sundsvall I will have a stop in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, to have a lunch-meeting with some guys from Forsman & Bodenfors. F&B (Forsman & Bodenfors) is a really talented agency and have got a lot of prices for their work.
They contacted me and wanted to have a meeting with me about an internship at F&B so I´m really happy that they like my work. Even if I´ve would like to go to New York or Los Angeles it is an option to have my internship in Sweden. If that´s what´s gonna happened, F&B is one of the 3-4 in Sweden I would like to go to.

After this meeting I will go home to Sundsvall and see my lovely family to later on wednesday visit my old high school and have a lecture in design and a presentation about Hyper Island. This to get more people to recruit to our school.

About our current project at hyper:
We are now done with our concepts and have picked one to work more on. Not to spoil it now already when it´s a bit unclear and all but it´s about a super hero. It kind
of gets a bit hard next week when I have to go away for some days and have the Art Director role in the group. But thanks to Skype, Stixy, Google Documents and my sweet mail, we will actually get something done. Because we really have to, we have a load of stuff to do and not that long to do it.

Mixing the ideas

This day has been all about mixing our thoughts and ideas and try to define 10 good concepts. Even if it was a slow start this morning, we came up with some pretty nice concepts and after work we got a little bit of food with our PM. A nice day to say the least.

On monday I will go home to Sundsvall and promote Hyper Island at my former school. It´s gonna be really nice to get to see my parents, brother and my bellowed dogs.



Some time before chirstmas I got really eager to see our dogs so I made a little tribute to them.


I have to promote my new blog as well. RandomJerbo.blogspot.com is the thing. This place will be for the stuff I create and wont end up on my portfolio. And also some other good stuff I find.

Creative process can begin

We have started off with the more creative work now when the re-brief is done for today. As always we used the lovely post-it notes and tried to see in what way we are going in this project.


I don´t know but it might end up something like a mix of the apple (I´m a Mac, I´m a PC) commercials and this 80´s cartoon and Scrubs.

The Gunn Report

The big Mr. Gunn had some kind of lecture today. As I saw it, it was more about showing the latest scores on the global agency-highscore list. I didn´t have any expectations couse I didn´t know who he was until very reacently. Might have to do some more research about him. But still I don´t realy think that he gave me anything, no offence Mr. Gunn, your probably talanted
and all but this lecture was not that more then something I could have read on a newssite.



He was very friendly and English...

Meeting yesterday with client

So our meeting with Ulf Österstad from SYLF yesterday was great. We got a good new understanding of what our client wanted and are now busy with writing a debrief and then get to work with the concept.

It´s gonna be awesome!

Time to meet the clients

Today we had a little meeting with our new workgroups in witch we are gonna do work for a real client. Our client is a doctor/medical organization that want to have some video promotion material to show on conventions and also some web application. We are having a meeting with them later today were we are gonna get a better description of what they want.

Our group are looking for a place to settle down and build a good work area, right now we got some tables in another part of the school, the Båtsman building.


This is our current place.


Will probably bring my iMac and other stuff here later this week if this is the place were we will stay.

Talked about the internship

Yesterday we listened to some students from Crew 12 talking about their internship around the world. Something I found interesting was to here how it was in New York and what they thought about the different agencies in the US.
It was a lot of good stuff to listen and talk about, specially for me who are interested in going to US for my internship. Got some good info about visa and other things you have to take care of when you want to go to outside Europe.

Later that day we had a mingle dinner party at the school, good food and good people in a relaxing environment. Got some more info about how things are handled with apartments in New York and what we could expect to pay.

Welcome Crew 12!

On monday were gonna get to meet Crew 12, who now has been out on their 7 month internship. Some of them are gonna stay at our place (me, Kim Demåne, Emil Rydberg and Hampus Lideborg) and they will arrive here tonight.
So tomorrow they will talk about their internship so we get a little headstart before we go out on the field. I hope to get some good recommendations on agencies in New York. Your Majesty seams very nice. Would not say no to them, but maybe some place with more focus on the motion part. I don´t now and thats why it will be so great having Crew 12 here to talk about their experience from their intership.

First day of "The Project Lifecycle"

Today Åsa held a presentation about our next module, The Project Lifecycle. In it we are supposed to work with a real client for about 4 weeks.
The once who have specialized in Project Management are now in charge of two smaller groups of 3-4 people, mixed developers and designers.
I have Johanna Tannerfors ( http://www.johannatannerfors.com/ ) as my PM and and working side by side in my group of three, is Yvonne Lu ( http://yvonne.lu/ ) and Filip Redelius ( http://www.filipredelius.com/ ).
We have got the client SYLF ( http://www.slf.se/ ) which is a doctor and medical organization and the brief is about creating something on the web and at there booth in different conventions. So I hopefully get to do a lot of motion graphics.

We had a little lunch meeting with our PM today as well, we talked about what roles and positions we wanted in the group and what we had for kind of expectations on the module and on each-other. I got the role of Art Direction and motion graphics guy.

Yesterday I got a little talk with Jens on Your Majesty, and told me all about the agency and how and what they do. I was sitting like a child at christmas listening to what he had to say. I´ve also been checking out some of the work they have been doing and I say: Me like, me like.

Got a bit scared today as well, phoned the guys that take care of visa and stuff for the students going to US for longer internship periods and they told me that you have to be over 21 to get a visa. And I´m scared because I´m 19, 20 later this summer. They said that I could work but they didn´t know for sure. But whatever, anything is possible. Maybe I could just travel to US and get married in Las Vegas.

Back from London

We are now back from our releaseparty in London at DUST BAR. Many new and nice contacts have been created.

I should also mention that we had a visit at the RGA office in London to get our last assignment, a brief from Getty Image. The brief was about giving light on there new stuff, which is video and sound.

We came up with a concept with a number of parts. One way to market, one way to search content and one way to organize the contet on the web.

Marketing.
Display how much better a moodvideo can be rather then displaying a moodboard to a client.
As we know, clients will often notice stuf that your not anttend to display. So to make them get more in the mood then just annoyed with details you could use video and sound.

Comp search.
To get the perfect picture or video we came up with the idea to make your own layout of the composition and serach the content and layout of the footage. How to build this comps is simple, a drag and drop menu on the items is displayed to the left and och the right we have the comp area where you have the basic editing tools such as rotate, scale, mirror and all that.
And how cloud this work with video? Well, when we did some quick research we foundout that the most video footage is kind of the same angle all the time (the camera isnt moving in the shoots) or it got the same look over the whole video.
We also had an idea on diffrent plugins for the big Adobe softwares like After Effects where you can browse video, sound and images for your work and whitout having to go on the web, search for the content, download it, place in a folder and then import to after effects. This will be working with other softwares aswell, such as Photoshop, Illustrator and others.

Handeling content on the web.
We want a place where you can put and organize the content you find on getty images. This will be pretty much like Stixy.com, organizing and sharing your workspace, ideas/notes and content with your colleages.

Tomorrow we will go to the train, roll over to Denmark, jump on the flight, land in London and party til we are purpule...

...and on thursday we are also gonna party, couse then we have our releaseparty.

So today is that lazy day when you should pack your stuff and go change your money to some exotic colored paper they call money in GB.

This will be my packing for the trip.

Time for interviews

Under this week I´ve been writing some questions for my mentors. And yes thats right, I´ve been blessed with two more mentors besides designer/animator Maren Morstad at Eyeball NYC. So now Creative Director Ryan Honey at Buck, LA and Art Director Rikesh Lal at Publicis Hal Riney, SF are gonna help me to and give me feedback on my specialization module and Im so happy about it.

Now over to the interview part. I´ve got my answers from Maren and later next week Im gonna talk or write to Rikesh and Ryan.
I´ve been asked to put the interviews on the blog as well, but I think Im gonna sum them up with the most interesting parts from each one instead of dropping a bomb on this blog with three long interviews.


Now back to my other tasks today.

"The Theatre Poster"

So we got a assignment today, just a few hours of work and then presentation. Franklin de Bekker and Eric Wie from Vandejong was are here to help us and they gave us an introduction to the assignment and showed some of their posters designs.
Becaouse the assignment is to come up with a poster design for one of the following theatre pieces.

• "Pippi longstocking"
• "Hamlet"
• "The sound of music"

As it looks now, I am gonna go with The Sound of Music. Probably becouse that´s the one I now least about.

The assignment is to play arround with the analog tools in design so I might do a quick photoshoot for my poster.

More will come under the day.

Feedback from Mentor Maren

So now I got my feedback from my mentor Maren. And here it is!

"The first thing that struck me was that choice of colors. Subtle but yet a very nice pallet. All the colors fit together well. As far as I see it he playfulness in this piece, makes a good connection to Saul Bass.
For me its more interesting to see and interpretation of Saul Bass than an exact copy. And I think he has captured the sole of Saul Bass work in a neatly done way.
After a little closer look I wish that the name of the author (Roal Dahl) was worked into the design, bit more on.
The chopped up font does its job inside the peach, but it doesn't work as feel on the name.
It comes to me as a little bit disconnected.
Overall Its nicely done. And I just want to finish with the words that initially popped into my mind.
NICE!"

Day 3 in the Spec 1 module

Today was presentation day for the 24 hour design task. I Mad a keynote where my first slide was covered with alot of poster and such from Saul Bass and in the pile of poster I put my design, making it melt into his style. Then I let his designs fade away and left was my creation.

The feedback from the class was that I got maybe to much going on in the picture to be the style of Saul Bass. They liked the choice of colors and graphic elements. The way of presenting my work was also appreciated.

My mentor Maren just got the mail with the design so her feedback will come later on today or tomorrow.

Day 2 in the Spec 1 module

I have now chosen a designer that I´m gonna do some research into. The first assignment is to pick one of following themes/works and use our chosen designers style to do a print design.

• Hyper Island “Retrospective” 1995-2008
• Roald Dahl, “James and the Giant Peach”
• Doris Lessing, “The Golden Notebook”

I´ve choose Roald Dhal´s book "James and the Giant Peach" because that is close to Saul Bass past works.

We will peermarket two guys in my class, Emil Rydberg and Simone Magurno.
Emil choose the same designer as I did, but picked the Hyper Island "retrospective" and Simone picked Lazar Markovich Lissitzky which I will have to look up to get a clue of how that designers work looks like.

Saul Bass made alot of film posters and title sequences for some of Hollywoods greatest filmmakers. Therefore I will make my own title sequence if the time allow. The time is 24 hour. From now. So we will se if it´s possible.

First day of "Spec 1-module"

So this is the fort day of the Spec module. Our module cordinator Greg talked a bit about what´s gonna be in this module and what we will get to do under the following five weeks.

Under this module we are supose to have a mentor, a person from the industry that gives us feedback on our work and under the development.
My mentor is Maren Morstad from Crew 12 currently having her internship at Eyeball NYC where I really could see myself going on my internship.
I´ve tried to gather as many as possible that could give me feedback, the more the more as I use to say.

So this year we are not gonna be called Crew 13 but Digital Media 2009 Karlskrona.

Not that sexy so when we now get to market our class so we get cool internships we build a new brand. Creatives unlimited. Thats what we are and that plus .com is our domain.

Directing the art

In this module, the Visual Communication module, we got to do a graphical profile, a video flashplayer and marketing plan for a company involving online video.
I took the job as the AD in our group and was also responsible for the design of the website and presetation strategy.

It worked well to be the AD and we got a price for being the group with the best result and best presentation.
